Make a lasting difference for generations to come....
Why make a Bequest
As the state's peak cycling body, we are working to increase the use of bicycles for transport, helping to improve the environment and community health, and increasing recreation and tourism.
We achieve these goals by lobbying governments and policy planners for better conditions and facilities for all cyclists, and as a not-for-profit organisation this relies on various forms on fundraising. Donations, sponsorships, and bequests for purposes appropriate to the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust needs will be actively sought.
A bequest to the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust is a powerful way to touch the future
How to make a Bequest
Making a Will lets you decide who will receive your assets when you no longer need them. Without a valid Will, an estate will be allocated according to a formula under state laws, and if there is no next of kin your estate will go to the state government. So making a Will is a positive action that brings you peace of mind.
If you already have a Will you can simply add a supplement to the Will, which sets out your instructions for a bequest.
A clearly written and up-to-date Will is the only way that you can ensure that your Estate will be distributed according to your wishes. You can provide security for your family & friends, and at the same time further support the causes that have been most important to you during your lifetime.
Common Forms of Bequests
It is preferable to allocate your estate by one of the following methods:
1. Residual bequest
After making provision for family and friends, you can choose to leave what is left (the residue) of your estate to the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust
2. Percentage
Some people decide to share their estate among a number of people and allocate a percentage or nominated portion to beneficiaries. This overcomes the need to review your Will regularly to take account of changes in your estate or to compensate for inflation.
3. Gifts of property
Specific assets such as real estate / property, artwork, stocks / bonds / shares, jewellery, antiques, etc can also be gifted in your Will to the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust . Our Trust can also be the beneficiary of a life insurance or superannuation policy (subject to the terms of the policy).
4. Specified cash sum
A sum of money may be left to the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust for general use. Note that while a specified amount of cash is a common form of bequest, it does not allow for inflation. The real value of the gift can prove to be substantially less than intended due to the effects of inflation between the time of making the Will and the allocation of the assets.
